I have watched FRESH twice now in a community setting. Last night I had the pleasure of eating fabulous food--mostly local, all sustainable--in a lovely setting. We mostly cook and eat this way at home, but sometimes we cut corners--like buying Angus beef without REALLY knowing if it was grass-fed. (Probably not, or else the label would say so.) We have quite a few local pig farmers around here who allow their happy pigs to frolic and root in the woods all day. We are so lucky. I haven't eaten a supermarket egg in years...But sometimes we're on the road and there is NO guarantee where restaurant food is coming from--unless, of course, you eat at a place like I did last night where the source is listed on the menu and I know the chef personally as well as many of the farmers who grow the food they serve there. And then there are school lunches...Sigh. You know all that beef is coming from a factory farm and a factory processor. Kids love their burgers, but would they still if they knew the conditions in which these poor animals live? I doubt it. That's why I brought my 10 year old son to the film. He needs to know this; all kids need to know the truth so that they, along with Orren, will be inspired to make the changes necessary for sustainability.
