FRESH Manifesto
WHAT’S UP WITH THESE LICENSES?
You’re about to join the FRESH movement, a constantly growing community striving to alter the way our food system works. We are following a very different distribution model; rather than screening this film in theaters in a few cities, we wanted to put these 70 minutes into your hands to use as a tool to inspire and educate your communities all over the country. We aren’t relying on a big distribution company to spread this film; we’re relying on YOU, which is why YOU have the capability of purchasing a screening license and create the event that YOU think would benefit your community.
DON’T WATCH THIS FILM ALONE!
We believe screening FRESH can create a ripple effect and help us reach a tipping point where sustainable food is no longer a niche market but mainstream. If you share this film with just 10 people, you are helping tremendously in our journey towards a more sustainable food system. Host a screening for your friends! Have a locally-sourced potluck and discuss the film when it’s done over some delicious food!
BUT I CAN’T / DON’T WANT TO ORGANIZE A SCREENING!
That’s ok, check out our site regularly to see if a screening is taking place in your community. And sign-up to our mailing list so we can let you know when DVDs will be available for individual sale. But also keep in mind that organizing an event is easy. All we’re talking about really is inviting your friends and family, popping some corn and turning off the lights! And if you’re feeling a little bit more ambitious, here’s a few tip to reach a much bigger audience.
Here are some great ways to spread the word about your FRESH screening
- ORGANIZE A PANEL DISCUSSION
- Bring in a farmer to share his or her thoughts about the subject, ask a local chef who routinely uses local produce to talk about why, get a local politician to speak about getting more community gardens in your neighborhood – the important part is to have a discussion, to turn this film into an opportunity for change and improvement.
GET THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED
- You would be amazed at how many people around you care deeply enough about their food to lend their time to organize a screening and help others learn how to care as well. Have tables outside the screening venue for local farmers, CSA’s, Grocery Stores, Non-Profits, etc to share their message and/or goods with your audience. Plan these partnerships ahead of time and make sure each group shares the information about the screening with their email lists. The more partners you have, the more publicity you have!
-
PUBLICIZE!
- Get in touch with the local media and ask them if they would like to do a piece about this innovative event that you’re putting on! Ana Joanes, the Director of FRESH, is also available for interviews if any of the local press would like to include that in their piece on your event.
- Create a Facebook Event – if you create an event page, and send it to us, we will happily share it with our fans. Invite your friends, have them invite their friends.
- Twitter!
- Post it on Craigslist, on your parenting list-serve, cycling group, etc. . . . You already belong to many different communities – make sure they all know about your screening.
